When I first heard of Burner, I couldn’t think of any legit/legal reason I’d need a temporary phone number. It seemed like the sort of thing you’d only need for black market trading, underground fight clubs, or having two families that don’t know about each other.

But alas! It’s useful.

I don’t want to give out my phone number when posting my MacBook for sale on Craigslist. I don’t want to give my phone number to the person at the grocery store recruiting for their MLM network. I don’t want to give my phone number to the restaurant that will text me when my table is ready.

For those reasons and more, there’s Burner.
